Balanced Life

A Balanced Life is Possible for Everyone

OUr Story

Goomi is built on the idea that a balanced life is possible for everybody. Self-care is a challenge for everyone in the age of power-meetings and drive-thru lunches.  Even though the benefits of physical activity on the body and mind are undeniable, fitting it into our lives doesn’t always make the iCalendar.

Goomi provides the space in the day to give your body what it needs by bringing an elite group of instructors directly to your work place. Every service stretches both body and mind, without ever having to search for your car keys. We eliminate the stress of planning and scheduling self care, so your team can focus better!

MIKA LEAH

My life changed on my 33rd birthday when I found myself breathless with chest pains on an easy hike in Temescal Canyon. The cardiologist’s tests revealed that something was VERY wrong, and told me I needed surgery right away. And not “right away” as in “take these pills for a couple weeks and check back with us,” but rather “you aren’t leaving this hospital until we’ve opened you up and fixed this.” Even though I already led an active lifestyle and maintained a healthy diet, my heart had a major blockage to the main artery. The doctors told me that birthday hike had saved my life.

Three procedures, five stents, and five years later, I’m still here and I understand that life needs to be lived with love and joy throughout, not just “when you can fit it in.” You can enjoy what you do every day, and you can make a difference in the world. This is why I founded Goomi - to give people the opportunity to live a healthy, balanced life. From experience in the fast-paced world of advertising and sales, I have gained insight into the need for employees to balance work and life, which benefits companies and employees alike. By bringing yoga and meditation to you at your office, we make it a part of your day instead of something you do “when the day is over.”

Yoga is a light, which once lit will never dim. The better you practice, the brighter the flame.

I grew up overseas and had been around the world three times before I was 10 years old. As my family traveled the world while I was a child, my dad taught us to never pity anyone who had less than us. We needed to understand that for some people, this was their way of life and we lessen the joy that life would provide them by comparing it too much to our own.  If someone needs help, help them - but if they are living their lives in their culture to the best of their ability and they are happy, than their lives are full.  He taught me that the best gift we could give when visiting another country was to learn about it first, then be a part of the experience while there without judgment.  This always stuck with me and shaped how I approach life.

The first time I assisted a teacher training, I found myself looking around at the incredible people in the room having their moment - when yoga was so much more for them than just exercise.  To be a part of their discovery made my own dharma as a teacher solidify so deeply, that I was forever changed.

Follow the path with heart.
— My Dad (William Cason)

Janice Chiou

JANICE CHIOU

Janice Chiou is a former attorney who converted to yoga once she realized that her happiest and most peaceful moments were on the mat. The ensuing journey included a lot of yoga philosophy reading, a 500 hr teacher training through YogaWorks Los Angeles, study with Jill Miller and Maty Ezraty, and a 1000 hr therapeutics yoga training under Jasmine Lieb. Her love/hate relationship to meditation has shaped her practice and teaching: she believes that the practice of yoga postures act as a gateway to meditation, a space to cultivate internal awareness and focus and equanimity. To that end, her classes are breath and alignment based, with the goal of promoting happiness and peace on and off the mat.

Nikka has been dancing since age six and began her yoga teacher training in high school to supplement dance, prevent injury, and find peace of mind amongst the anxieties of adolescence. Yoga has now become a way of life for her. Since completing her certification in Hatha Yoga she has explored and accomplished further training in Vinyasa, Ahstanga, Iyengar, Chinese Yoga, and Anusara.  She is fiercely passionate and continuously curious about the mind body connection as well as working with all ages kids through senior citizens.  Nikka graduated from UW Milwaukee with a BFA in Dance and a Somatics minor.  Her fascination with the mind-body relationship has compelled her to study the Alexander Technique intensely throughout college while also taking yoga and dance classes, workshops, and intensives throughout the country and Europe.  In addition, she now works as a leading behavior therapist for autistic children and is a student at LMU for her Yoga Therapy Certification.

"As I pursue my journey towards union, balance, and bliss within myself I joyfully and gratefully guide others to reveal their inner wisdom, light, and contentment."

In her free time, Nikka enjoys taking modern dance classes, choreographing, writing poetry, traveling, learning Russian, teaching belly dance, enjoying the beach, watching cartoons, and eating ice cream!

Yoga is like music: the rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind, and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.
